001. rise the darkness is an au nolan-verse batman site that abides by the proboards terms of service. you must be at least thirteen years of age to join us and keep all roleplay activities to a pg-13 level. failure to abide by this will result in the immediate removal of the offending roleplayer from the site, opening up any and all canons and face claims that they had to their name while they were here. this is perhaps the strictest rule we will have, so please don't do anything that will force staff members to have you removed.
002. please don't be discouraged by the boards that you see! as the site continues to grow and other characters are selected by members, more categories and boards will be added to allow for better diversity in roleplay locations. for example, gotham and metropolis currently exist because they are two of the most popular dc fandoms, but central city, star city, keystone city etc. can all be added if they are requested by members. while we might have batman as the focus of our plot at the moment, we are welcoming of characters from other branches of the dc universe.
003. as a literate site, we ask that all members post a minimum of 300 words in order to keep threads going and give their fellow roleplayers enough to work with for replies. however, we will also ask that if you are given more than 1000 words in a reply that you try to match it and not simply stick with 300 words, as it's a little inconsiderate for someone to work that hard without getting something relatively close in return. we do, however, know that sometimes coming up with a satisfying post is a little more difficult, so take your time with replying to people. just don't keep them waiting for months. but common sense is also key, so make sure you aren't power playing or god modding when you are posting.
004. when it comes to claiming a face for your character, we realize that some heroes have had multiple people play them. for the purposes of this site, we ask that you use your best judgement when selecting which face you will use, especially with heroes who might be a little younger in age. don't try to pass off a fourty year old actor for a teenaged hero. that just doesn't work. if you require any kind of help in finding a suitable playby for your character, feel free to ask a member of staff or some of the other members of the board and we'd be glad to help you out. you must use real life celebrities of some kind and not animated pictures or myspace faces. you do not have to necessarily use the actor who portrayed in them in a movie (if indeed they were shown), but we ask that you do consider them as a potential.
005. the staff are here to ensure that the site runs smoothly and that the members are all comfortable. they will not tolerate any kind of discrimination against gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or anything else, so you better show them respect. silly things like that are not only uncool but hurtful, and while we know that the characters are obviously going to fight and cause mayhem, the members should know what is real and what is not. don't cause any problems and everyone will get along fine. though if you do have an issue with something, you are more than welcome to send a message to the admin account and we will try our utmost to resolve the issue for you.
006. one final note about characters. while we are not a canon only site, we are going to keep a strict eye on what type of character is created. if you want to be a super hero, vigilante or villain, you will need to be a character that comes directly from the dc universe. original characters may not be sorted into these groups. however, they may be members of the anti-hero, criminal and civilian groups. criminals also encompasses characters that might be members of the mob or belong to crime families as well as hired assassins, but those will be kept under a tight watch to make sure we don't have a million of the same character running around.
007. when you have chosen the character that you wish to play, we request that you change your display name to the first and last name of the character, in capital letters. for example: LOIS LANE. in addition, after you have finished applying for your character, we ask that make sure you have completed all of the claims and posted them in code. this is helpful in making sure that other members and potential ones know which characters and faces are taken so that there is no confusion. please note, however, that if you fail to claim your character and/or their face then you do run the risk of losing them to someone else.
008. now, as i'm sure you all know, these are characters that many of us grew up with and would absolutely love to play to the best of our ability. that being said, we reserve the right to deny applications that portray any of these characters in a way that doesn't fit their persona. but don't be disheartened! you might not have a grasp on wally west's personality, but you might enjoy playing alfred pennyworth and capture him perfectly. that being said, we don't want to have anyone pick up a major character and not keep them active. you may play as many characters as you like, each on their own separate account, but if you become inactive then you will be deleted after two weeks time. the characters you lost will then be opened back up to people who would like to apply for them, though you are free to re-join the site at anytime. however, if you had more than one character before you left, you will be allowed only one to start with, provided they are still open.
009. lastly, enjoy yourself. the idea is that roleplaying is supposed to be fun for everyone and not just a chance for people to vent their anger on others. treat people with respect and the same will be delivered to you. follow the rules and you'll never have to worry about the staff coming after you for something. it's as simple as that.
